What a difference a year makes

It’s been 12 months since I returned to work from maternity leave. I didn’t realise it would create so much reflection!

I’ve done it! If you were to ask me how? I’m not sure I’d have an answer.

12 months ago I vaguely remember the anxiety, fear and excitement. Oh my goodness a complete range and mix of emotions. I also remember the doubt, the doubt was very very real. How will I do this? Do I actually know how to do my job? Can I do this?

Day by day slowly my confidence returned (thankfully.) As a family of three we gradually started to find our feet with what is now some sort of a routine! It often changes day to day! It’s never perfect, but I gave up striving for that a long time ago. I’ve also achieved so much, from a personal, relationship, job & mother perspective.

I’m proud, proud of me! Tired also, that’s life I’m afraid- something I’m ever chasing. I’m answering those questions I had 12 months ago daily. In complete honesty, I don’t know how I do it! I’ve got a team of support around me which I know I’m very lucky to have. I most certainly do know how to do my job, and you know what I’m bloody good at it! And finally yes, I absolutely can do this (most days!)

You know what. I can do a lot of things, I just have to give it a go and adapt the focus if it doesn’t work for me.

We’re all very different but I’m hoping by sharing my experience as a therapist- showing we all have doubts, reduced confidence and fear. It helps you!

To all the ladies trying to be mamas, to all the ones about to become mamas and to all the mamas. You’re doing great.
